Fort Bend to Implement Childcare Voucher Program for Families Struggling with Expenses

Fort Bend County Commissioners Court announced the designation of funding from the Federal Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) for families who are struggling to cover childcare expenses.

“In Fort Bend County, we care about our children,” County Judge KP George said during the announcement of the program on March 8. “And we care about our parents getting back to work. And this program is going to address both,” he added.

The additional funds of more than $250,000 will be earmarked to support families to offset childcare costs, with qualifying families eligible for up to $500 per child and up to three children per family.

Eligibility requirements include being a Fort Bend County resident at the time of application, having a child under 13, using the approved voucher at a Texas Licensed Child Care Center/Program or Texas Licensed Child Care Home Provider, and having their income negatively impacted by COVID-19.

If granted, the vouchers can be used at any participating child care facility in Fort Bend. Online applications opened on March 1, and both the application and more eligibility requirements can be found here.
