Sugar Land Inaugurates Drive-thru COVID-19 Testing Site

Fort Bend County recognizes the importance of testing sites, and in response to the growing demand of testing services – especially now that schools are opening again – Sugar Land inaugurated a mega drive-thru COVID-19 testing site.

Due to the highly transmissible omicron variant, Fort Bend County saw a 500 percent increase in COVID-19 cases in the past three weeks, according to Dr. Jacqueline Minter, Fort Bend County Health Authority, as reported by KHOU.

“Testing is important… because we just opened our schools,” said County Judge KP George, last week during an afternoon press conference at the new site.

George also said the mega site offers an advantage over the county’s four smaller testing sites inside government buildings.

“It is outdoor,” he said. “(You) never get out of the car, and so it is much faster this way.”

The site is located at Brazos River Park at 18427 Southwest Freeway. It will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and takes within 48 hours for results to arrive.
