Xavier Herrera Takes Mayor Cecil Willis Council Seat

Stafford has officially elected a new member for its city council. Xavier Herrera defeated Tom Virippan as the city’s newest councilman in Position 5. The seat had previously been occupied by the town’s Mayor, Cecil Willis.

Herrera won by a landslide, taking 70.61 percent of the votes, against Virripan’s 29.39 percent. The unofficial election results were made public by the city last Saturday evening.

Herrera has a strong background in education, he has been a Stafford MSD board member since 2015 and he is also the chairman of the city’s planning and zoning commission. Additionally, he is in charge of communications for Fort Bend County Judge KP George.

His former rival, Republican Tom Virripan is a former teacher and principal, he also lost an election last November to incumbent State Rep. Ron Reynolds in House District 27.
