71-Year-Old-Man Mauled To Death By Pitbulls

A 71-year-old man lost his life in Fort Bend County after being attacked by 7 pit bulls.

Freddy Garcia was out on Monday on his regular stroll through the neighborhood to the convenience store, something he did a lot with family or friends. He lived in a garage apartment on Mark Terrace Lane with a family friend, and various people mentioned that pit bulls were a normal part of the area.

Seven pit bulls attacked Garcia during his walk. He was quickly whisked to the hospital but died from his injuries. Police officers assure that he didn’t do anything to provoke the animals or initiate the attack.

“He lived here for 10 years,” mentioned his brother Jorge Garcia in an interview for The Houston Chronicle. “We always saw the dogs out. There were never any problems.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, he was out at around 1:30 pm when he was attacked on the 4300 block of Mark Terrace Lane, in unincorporated Fort Bend County. A passerby called 911 and Garcia was taken to the nearest hospital via Life Flight.

By Tuesday morning, authorities had captured four of the dogs and located the remaining three by the afternoon, after a multi-agency search in the wooded area.

District Attorney Brian Middleton mentioned that prosecutors are considering a second-degree felony charge against those whose animals were responsible for the attack, but at the moment it remains unclear whether the dogs had an owner in the first place.

Jorge Garcia is sure the dogs belong to one of his brother’s neighbors. This is the second dog attack in the area, the first one happened last Friday and it was not fatal.
