Adopt a Puppy at Fort Bend Animal Services

Fort Bend Animal Services is dedicated to fostering stray dogs and cats from the Fort Bend County area. They are over capacity, so they have been waiving adoption fees, starting with cats.

The shelter has seen an increase in stray dogs who arrive at the center. Normally their capacity is at 130, but they estimate they have around 170 at the moment and calculate reaching 200 very soon.

Rene Vasquez, Fort Bend County Animal Providers director, expressed to the Houston Chronicle that the adoption process is extremely simple: all you have to do is show up, and you get paired up with a coordinator that helps you through the adoption or fostering process.

The prices for adoptions are available on their official website, it is $80 for puppies six months and youthful, $40 for dogs from 7 months to 5 years old, $40 for kittens under six months, $20 for cats from 7 months to 5 years old and $10 for cats who are 5 years or older.

Houston animal shelters have been struggling, from the financial strain of the COVID-19 pandemic to the overall lack of support from the government and the community. Keeping spaces like this takes a lot of money: medicine and veterinary care, food, recreational spaces, and daily care are just a few of the expenses these places have.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, adopting is a much better option than buying a pet not only because it is significantly cheaper, it is a way to fight against unethical puppy breeding factories and it helps combat the number of stray dogs and cats in the streets.

If you are interested in adopting a forever furry friend, you can call  Fort Bend County Animal Providers at (281) 342-1512, or head over to their website or shelter.
