Chi Ike: The Sophomore Track Athlete Who Won´t Stop

Chi Ike doesn’t let his disability stop him while pursuing his dreams. He is a track and field athlete, faster than anyone on the Austin High School team, and has competed in regional track events.

He was injured in an electrical accident in 2014 while he was living with his family in Nigeria. As a result, he lost his hand and part of his arm. He told Click 2 Houston, that he was scared and shocked at first. But after 7 surgeries and six months of rehabilitation, Chi Ike returned to the track and has given his best.

Chi is natural for sports, he is additionally on the football team. He attends Fort Bend Austin High School, where he trains almost every day. His coach Dewey Evans says about him “He’s fast and the way he runs, it’s so natural”.

“I just wanted to prove to myself I could do things people with two hands can do,” Chi said in an interview with Click 2 Houston. His disability has been his motivation to continue training, he not only does this for himself but for all the disabled people, it’s his way of saying: “It doesn’t matter if you are disabled or not, you can do whatever you want if you just put your mind towards it”.
