Fort Bend among the 5 Counties with the Most Active Covid Cases Across Texas

According to the Worldometer, the United States is currently the country with the most active cases, with Fort Bend and its 14,764 current cases being 5th place on the Texas ranking of counties with the most active covid-19 cases.

Out of the 254 counties in Texas, the ranking of the top 5 counties include Tarrant in first place with 35,198 active cases, Harris in second place with 32,500, then Dallas with 25,262, followed by Montgomery in third place with 22,227 active cases and then Denton in fourth place with 14,671.

And as the cases rise, so does vaccine deployment. On Tuesday, Fort Bend received 8,000 more doses of the vaccine, reopening their eligibility pre registration the same day but closing it several hours after.

County Judge KP George said Tuesday morning that more eligible people outside of the designated categories will be able to receive the vaccine soon as more doses become available.

So far, vaccination eligibility required meeting the criteria of Texas’ Phase 1A or Phase 1B categories, with Phase 1A including first responders and health care workers and Phase 1B including persons age 65 or older and those 16 and older with an underlying health condition such as cancer, chronic kidney disease, heart conditions, obesity and pregnancy.

“My goal is to vaccinate the most vulnerable neighbors—our seniors, our moms and dads, uncles and aunties—they contribute to make us who we are…our number one priority is to make sure we protect them and they feel good, are not living in fear,” said County Judge KP George

According to the Coronavirus Vaccine Tracker by the Houston Chronicle, all vaccines currently authorized by the FDA require two doses and are authorized for people 16 years and older. Texas has administered almost 4 million vaccine doses in total.

In Fort Bend County, 56,000 people have received the first dose, which represents 7.35% of the estimated population and 31,000 people have been fully vaccinated, representing 4.05% of the estimated population.
