Fort Bend Rainbow Room Is The Calm After The Storm

Fort Bend Rainbow Room provides a ray of hope for children and adults in crisis, just in the last year it helped more than 1,600 children.

They hand out new clothes, shoes, diapers and other items to help children and adults in need.

All across Texas these Rainbow Rooms provide a helping hand for people involved with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, children as well as adults who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, as reported by The Houston Chronicle.

“When a child is removed, they’re able to get what’s needed immediately,” said Tonya Lewis, Fort Bend Rainbow Room executive director to The Houston Chronicle. “The state doesn’t always reimburse or provide things quickly, so the rooms allow the caseworkers to be able to get things fast.”

The Rainbow Room also helps families facing economic issues and financial hardship. Child Protective Services cases originate when someone calls in.

The call usually comes from a school employee who notices when a child is lacking clean clothes or their shoes are falling apart.

“These kids and these people that are in this situation, it’s by no fault of their own. And so, for them to have new items, it’s just the next level that we take it to,” said Emily Calbert, Fort Bend Rainbow Room director of publicity. “And I think that’s something that makes us really special, is we put that emphasis on new items, versus used or gently used.”

Lewis said community members can support FBRR by making monetary donations at www.fbrr.org or mailing checks to P.O. Box 1662, Rosenberg, TX 77471.

They can also drop off supplies like diapers and new clothes at the FBRR office, located at 1110 Avenue G in Rosenberg or during events.
