Solar Star: How A Massive Solar Farm In California Thrives Alongside Desert Wildlife

Solar Star in California was the biggest and best-producing solar farm when it was built in 2015, and it’s an example of how species can live in the farm’s surroundings.

The farm produces 579 megawatts of energy, enough to power 255,000 homes. It is the largest solar farm in the U.S. with 1.7 million solar panels across 3,200 acres.

The farm was built in altered or damaged land, but the surroundings are full of life. The farm is located in Rosamond, California in the Antelope Valley region. This area is predominantly desert and agricultural, but there are some species living around Rosamond. According to an article by AZ Animals, these species may pass through or even inhabit the area. Some of the species that live in the area are coyotes, bobcats, jackrabbits, ground squirrels and rattlesnakes.

All of the species that can inhabit the surroundings of the solar farm are common in the Rosamond area and are adapted to survive in desert places or arid regions.

Solar Star is the highest-producing solar farm in the United States in terms of power generated, even though there are bigger farms. This is because Solar Star uses a smaller number of crystalline silicon modules that are high-wattage, high-efficiency, and higher cost. Some other farms use a larger number of photovoltaic modules, which have lower efficiency and lower cost. Also, the farm uses a technology that allows the solar panels to track the sun’s movements, this makes the farm 25% more efficient than farms that don’t have this technology.California leads renewable energy in the U.S. and is host to the largest power plants in the country. The state has the goal to reach 60% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% by 2045.

With high-tech projects like Solar Star, it seems that California is getting closer to achieving its goals in the future. Will more states follow the lead of California and adopt renewable sources of energy?
