Texas Man Arrested After 7 Dogs Fatally Attack 71-Year-Old

Last week 71-year-old Freddy Garcia lost his life after being attacked by seven pitbulls on his way to the convenience store. This week, a man was arrested for possibly being involved in his death.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 47-year-old Samuel Cartwright in connection to the tragic incident that ended Garcia’s life in Fresno, Texas.

An investigation was conducted by the sheriff’s office, Fort Bend Animal Control and Fort Bend County’s DA office following the death of Freddy Garcia. The attack occurred on July 18, and Garcia was fatally attacked by seven pitbulls now identified to be Cartwright’s pets. All dogs are pit-bull mix and have been captured by animal control and deputies.

Samuel Cartwright is currently in Fort Bend County Jail with his bond set at $100,000. His charge is attack by dog resulting in death, which is a second-degree felony. Being the owner of the animals he is the sole responsible person for the attack.

“This devastating tragedy didn’t have to happen. I extend my deepest condolences to the Garcia family and his neighbors as they adjust to the loss of Mr. Garcia,” Sheriff Eric Fagan mentioned in a statement. “Special thanks go out to our deputies, Fort Bend Animal Services Director Rene Vasquez, and Fort Bend District Attorney Brian Middleton for the collaborative work of capturing the dogs and making an arrest.”​
